3M ESPE Scotchbond Etchant is a clinically proven phosphoric acid–based conditioning agent designed to prepare enamel and dentin surfaces prior to adhesive restorative procedures. Formulated with approximately 37% phosphoric acid, it effectively removes the smear layer and demineralizes the tooth surface to create micro-porosities. These micro-retentive areas are essential for achieving strong and durable bonding with dental adhesives and restorative materials.
The etchant features a distinct blue-colored, low-viscosity gel consistency, allowing clinicians to easily visualize placement and ensure complete coverage of the intended area. This visual control minimizes the risk of over-etching or accidental application to adjacent tissues.
Unlike thicker etchants, its flowable yet controlled consistency allows smooth extrusion through dispensing tips, ensuring precise delivery even in hard-to-reach areas. Additionally, the formulation is designed to maintain consistency without drying out, ensuring reliable performance throughout the procedure and efficient usage until the last drop.
Scotchbond Etchant is compatible with a wide range of adhesive systems and can be used in both total-etch and selective-etch techniques, making it a versatile choice for modern restorative dentistry. It plays a crucial role in enhancing bond strength, improving marginal integrity, and ensuring long-term clinical success of restorations.
