Formocresol is a dental pulp fixation solution that must be used by a medical professional. It is used as a root canal medication and is highly efficient in vital pulpotomy due to its antibacterial activity. It plays a vital role for the conservative treatment of primary and permanent teeth. The formulation comprises Formaldehyde 20%, Cresol 35%, Glycerine, and Isopropyl Alcohol, supporting reliable antibacterial action and pulpal fixation. When used immediately, a cotton or gauze pellet with Formocresol is placed directly in the pulp chamber for 5 minutes before sealing with zinc oxide eugenol material; for prolonged treatment, the pellet is left under a provisional restoration for one week before proceeding with root canal therapy.
